We all belong
Growing our autism community
Every year, thousands of families face the unique challenges that come with an autism diagnosis. For many, these challenges can be overwhelming and isolating. At Courageous Belonging, we strive to bridge the gap by offering:
Awareness Events to bring awareness to our community.
Community Gatherings tailored for special needs families. Holiday events, sports teams, playdates are challenging and often avoided. We want to help change this.
Support Groups that foster connection, understanding, and shared experiences among parents and caregivers.
Advocacy Services to ensure families have access to the resources and support they need.
Our work is made possible through the generosity of individuals, businesses, and community partners who share our vision of a world where every individual with autism can thrive.
Community Gatherings
We recognize the importance of creating inclusive spaces where families can celebrate the joy of holidays and special occasions in a sensory-friendly environment. Traditional events, such as visiting Santa, hunting for Easter eggs, or watching a 4th of July parade, can often be overwhelming for individuals with autism. To address this, we plan to host community gatherings tailored for families with autistic members, where they can experience the joy of these occasions in a supportive and accommodating setting. These events could include:
Sensory-friendly visits with Santa, with quiet waiting areas and understanding staff.
Adaptive Easter egg hunts designed with smaller groups and visual aids.
Firework-free 4th of July celebrations featuring games, crafts, and safe spaces for everyone.
Awareness Events
In addition to these gatherings, we organize autism awareness events aimed at raising understanding within the broader community and reaching families who may need additional support. These initiatives include:
Collaborative events with schools, businesses, and local organizations to promote acceptance and understanding of autism.
We also see a need for and hope to eventually provide:
Public seminars and workshops to educate the community on autism and foster empathy and inclusion.
Outreach campaigns to connect underserved families with resources and programs.
Support Groups
Another cornerstone of our efforts and fundraising is to host support groups for parents of autistic children and siblings of high-needs individuals. These groups provide a safe and understanding space for:
Parents to share their experiences, seek advice, and build lasting connections with others who understand their journey.
Siblings of individuals with high needs to express their feelings, develop coping strategies, and form bonds with peers who face similar challenges.
Families to find emotional support, practical guidance, and a sense of community as they navigate the complexities of life with autism.
Our story
In 2022, our youngest son Andrew was diagnosed with non-verbal autism. Being unaware of autism, we did what every family does - turned to google. We researched and researched. And then we became overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start. Autism spectrum disorder looks different for everyone, so there isn’t a roadmap.
Along our journey, we have found the best resources to be our fellow autism families. We have been so grateful for their experience, support and suggestions. And our hearts went out to those without this community.
As Andrew gets older, we are noticing more differences and doing normal every day life is becoming more challenging.
We started this non-profit to help build a community not only for our family, but for other families out there having similar experiences.
